r151 problems
« on: Nov 22, 2008, 12:22:48 PM »
A while back I ended up with an 89 pu with an LCE motor followed by a marlin rebuilt r151 transmission. It also has a centerforce clutch. Lately it has been VERY difficult to get it into gear. I dont think it would be a clutch or trans issue as both are fairly new and low mile. I want to start by changing gear oil in the trans. 2 questions- any any other advice on the problem is also appreciated.
1. What is the capacity of the r151? (searched- nobody told the last guy)
2. I came from a Tacoma- some of those guys were overfilling by adding through the shifter instead of the fill plug and getting smoother shifts, anybody else had experience with this?

Thanks!

Check your trucks clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder.

Brandon-Well think about it this way. If a key can open a bunch of locks, it is viewed as a master key and is awesome to have but if a lock is opened by a lot of different keys, well thats a pretty shitty lock if you ask me.

Check for leaks, especially the slave cylinder (peel the dust boot back & see if there is fluid present ). Double check clutch pedal free play. You may need to bleed the master & slave then reset freeplay. Sounds like the clutch is not dis-engaging all the way.

I'll try that and report back. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to fully dis assemble both and check for scoring or whatever the fsm said. thanks
