I have always been told that Toyota axles are stringer than dana's and that there is nothing like having all Toyota parts on your truck, compared to having a mix matched truck.

its debatable. i feel the 44 has a stronger housing, and has a bigger ring gear, I also like the steering arms set up better. As far as axle strength i feel its a wash with quality alloy axles and 300M u joints, One big benefit is the added width, and the ease of cutting and turning the axle and even narrowing it.

depends on the width of the 44. mine is 63.5 inches wide so its not too much wider.

true...ok what do u think would be more work??
the 44 or just a toyota axle?
because i want new springs and if i run the 44 in the front then im gonna have to look for springs that'll fit the front....
other than the toyota axle i can just buy all the same springs off here

I was kinda wondering about this also, I know the strength of both axles are similar but can you get a tighter turning radius out of the Dana axles? I would be interested to hear more of the pros and cons of each axle. Not wanting to hyjack here but I think it pertains to the subject

Here is a good write up on D-44's. Erik has been running one for years with very little problems. When he built his new rig this last year, 97 runner he took the D-44 from his old rig and used it. In his write up he tells you how to narrow it and it uses stock sized inner axles. The axles come from different vehicles but they are stock sizes, no custom axles to have to be made.

I don't know how a tighter turning radius would help you,   :dunno:  unless your running a coil front or something, because my tires will hit my springs before I run out of turning radius with the toy axle...  Then again I'm sittin on 38.5s...   :gap:

i have the same setup as erik does and it works killer. as far as hitting the spring with this set up its hard to since the axle is wider and the spring perches are narrower than a toy set up.
