After much planning and jumping thru some hoops, the September 27th FOE Workparty is on!
This workparty is set for September 27th because it is National Public Lands Day! We will be working in conjunction with the Rubicon trail Foundation and the Forest Service to complete several tasks.
Objectives:
1. Remove a large amount of trash, dumped appliances and abandoned cars from Grizzy Flats (29.1 miles from Pollock Pines)
2. Under Supervision of the Forest Service: Dismantle an old FS building at Owens Camp off Silverfork Road. (Above Kyburz)
Secondary Objective:
Assist The Rubicon Trail Foundation (if needed) with removal of another building at Owens Camp to be used as a Kiosk on the Rubicon.
For this work party we will need no more than 50 people, so we have to make it first come, first serve. If you can participate in this important effort, please e-mail me with the number of people, types of vehicles and if you can provide a trailer or not. (Please do not bring a trailer however, unless we ask you)
We will be camping Friday night at Owens Camp which is five miles up Silverfork road. (HWY 50 to Kyburz, go South on Silverfork road)
If you are NOT going to camp the night before, We will meet at 9 AM at Grizzy Flats. We will need 25+ people for the trash, 20 for the building removal.
What to bring:
Gloves, trash bags, drinking water and a few small trailers.
For those working at Owens (We will inform the people that will be on this project):
Claw Hammers. Pry Bars, Cats Paw, Safety Glasses, hard hats, gloves, boots and long pants.
Directions:
From Highway 50 for people in Placerville and west:
Take the Missouri Flat road exit south for 1.7 miles,
turn left on highway 49 for .6 miles,
stay right onto pleasant valley road for 4.7 miles
bear right onto Buck Bar Road for 4.8 miles
continue east on Grizzly Flat Road for 10.6 miles
turn left on Sciaroni Road for .5 miles
Turn right on Capps Crossing road for 1.8 miles
total distance from Highway 50 is 24.6 miles and 45 minute drive.
For those from up the hill in Pollock Pines
From Highway 50 at the Sly Park exit go south 4.6 miles
Turn left on Iron Mountain road for 11.1 miles
Turn right on North South Road for 8.6 miles
Turn Right on Capps Crossing Road for 4.8 miles
total distance 29.1 miles 50 minute drive
