Q about 4.7 gear install.
« on: Sep 07, 2008, 10:32:04 AM »
I just installed the 4.7's into my rear case. I greased all the surfaces like shown in the directions did not miss a step during install (that I can tell) but have a question. When it is in 2wd I can turn the input no problem, in high 4wd same thing, but when I put it into low I can not turn it by hand. Is this normal? I guess it could be the surface protectant stuff on the gears making it hard to turn. Also it is a little "stiff" so to speak to get it into low range. It goes fairly easy all the way to the neutral position but takes a little more preassure to get it into low. Any Ideas? Is this normal?

Absolutely not.

Quick question:

You did clearance the housing and shift fork(s), correct?

I did clearence the bottom section of the low range box and the shift fork, but not the curly looking part of the case. I will go rip it back apart and check it. Thank you. I just got a computer back so I did the whole job with out instructions since yall dont send instructions anymore with the kit's.

Problem solved. I took the low range box off and discovered that the high/low range shift rail horse shoe thing (where the roll pin holds it on) was rubbing on the new gear. I pulled it out and hit it lightly with the grider to clearence it. Works good now, I can turn the input in all the gears with no rubbing or grinding noises. Thanks for yall's help. I did not see in the directions anywhere that you had to do this, maybe my t-case is odd ball one!?!

that is on the instructions. Whether or not you received them is another story, but it is mentioned.

Glad you got it figured out.

I saw where you have to grind the 2wd/4wd block but did not see anything about the high/low block. I very well could be blind though.

*EDIT* I am an idiot, I went back and looked at the directions and it clicked. I ground the radius off of the other fork. I dont know how I misunderstood it but...
