What cat to buy??

.. so i searched for 5 mins.. didnt find anything and im in kinda of a hurry.. i was told magnaflow cats are the best to get... my truck ''91'' fails smog and im going to start with a new cat... 2 muffler shops here in town quoated me 160 for just the cat then when i go look on the net i find them all the way down to 85 bux... theres a bunch of diffrent part numbers for them... are they all the same? besides the mounting part of it? or are they specific to the car minus the mounting of it.... i weld and do all that crap so it wont be an issue not doing a direc fit one.... im in ca also

I bought a universal OBD1 cat at a local cat shop in town for 40 bucks and had it welded in and past smog no prob...my buddy welded it in for free.

A universal cat should work...

They're rated for up to 5.9 liter engines, so even with a 3.4  it will look like a high-flow cat....

i am running a free flow universal magnaflow and have passed smog no problem
88 4runner 92 cpi duals 37 radial rockers and 4.8 coming soon

when i lived in CA i always ran magnaflow cats. now that im in ID i run no cat. :yupyup:

dont u need obd2 in ca?? also my charcoal canister is completely plugged... will that make me fail smog??? i mean does it have any effect on tailpipe gasses??

OBDII is for vehicles '96 and newer (I believe.  Its around that year)  I bought a universal that was the same length from Kragens last time (cat shop closed from the time I bought one before :down: )  cost me $85.  The OEM replacement was like $275!!  :yikes: passed smog with flying colors.

here in texas after your car or truck is 25 years old you don't need to do emissions so next year my cat is going bye bye. if i haven't put a 2L T in by then.
