another look at crossover?
« on: Oct 29, 2004, 04:52:23 PM »
anybody ever thought of running an inverted T setup on a mini by using FJ60 tie rod ends?  it seems like it would be simpler(and cheaper!) than going with hysteer or a double arm.  i don't want much lift and probably won't have the flexiest truck out there, would this be a decent way of doing it?

If you had the tierod mounted as close to the passenger tierod end it would be fine.  Early bronco's have that type of steering and if you bind a tire and keep turning it will bend the tierod.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

welll i asked on pirate and got shot down.  turns out that the drag link(supposedly) will hit the springs on a right turn, unless you use a  :stopit: z-link

Yup I saw that.  There is a sizable amount of asshats there that if you try and stray from the norm or want to save some money they get all stupid and act like you are just trying to kill everyone by brazing together your steering setup.  They can all smoke a fat turd!  Z-links arent bad at all if you build it correctly, I would build one if I needed it with no hessitation what so ever.

WTF?  I would never braze steering parts.  I use solder only!!

i still think i'm gonna go with that steering setup...but i'm thinking about doing a radius arm setup with TJ coils(if they'll fit) someday  to go along with it :king:

I've had death wobble on the 84 ever since I converted to hi/crossover steering.  It's only at 35mph then it goes away.  I don't know if a steering stabilizer would help??  I set everything back exactly like it was before I took it apart.  Maybe I need to toe it in more?  Any ideas WT?

Sounds like something is a bit loose.  ShawnB had some death wobble so we were checking everything out real carefull.  I walked to the tool box and grabbed a 17 mm and started tightening the passenger arm, you should have seen his face.
