New to Fj40s
« on: Jul 14, 2004, 10:34:28 AM »
:headscratch:  I own a November 1970 FJ40 which I've started to tear down and rebuild.  I'll probably be asking a lot of "new guy" questions,
and I'll appreciate any suggestions along the line.  By the way, what's the deal with turtle stuff?

I've posted a few questions on the Rebuild section of the Board...I've have a lot of ideas but I'm looking for ways not to reinvent the wheel.
The 4 questions involve:  Leafspring to coil spring conversion, Advance Adapters Rock box vs. Marlin's Fj40 Toybox, drum to disc brake conversion,
and Carb to EFI/TBI.  I haven't received that many responses on this board and either my questions are too basic, too technical, or
not that many people care.
I am doing a complete tear-down.  I'll prepare the frame, take care of the body w/ new paint and some type of lining for the interior
and underbody.
I plan on replacing the existing V8 with a new crate motor and all under hood components(radiator, steering, air conditioning, etc).  I'm  still
deciding on direction of a few things aside from the 4 questions above, such as: type and extent of suspension mods, auto transmission vs. manual trans.,
ARB vs. other type of locker.  I'm quite experienced with mods to Land Rovers but I'm new to the Fj40 experience, and I'm trying to learn.
Thanks for any help.

I have seen a couple of your questoins and you should give a little more info, such ans the TBI conversion what type of motor are you goint to use? and are you looking for after market like a holley computer setup or stock ? And I think most people here stick closely to the toyota drivetrain, but there are a few dare devils.

Well, the reality of it is that I'm not decided on the type of motor!!!  I'm leaning toward a new chevy 350 but I thought about a diesel conversion(low probability)
