I'm thinking I want to buy this boat
« on: Jun 03, 2008, 09:21:21 PM »
Not this exact boat, but one like it.  I saw an ad on craigslist for one that's just a bit different, did a google search and found this video and it looks identical to a boat a neighbor has down the street.  For some reason it reminds me of the james bond boat.  The one down the road has just been sitting there ever since I moved in here over a year and a half ago, so hopefully they'll sell it for a reasonable price.  Funny thing about the video is he could go just a hair faster and stop porpoising if he'd just trim it down a hair    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXbxO-2O6kA&watch_response

I don't know, it's just sitting in the yard of a neighbor I've never talked to.  I don't even know if they'd sell it yet.

Boats can be money pits for sure.  If only I knew a guy who worked on them for a living

Nice boat though.

And you think Kimber's are spendy?

:yesnod:  I'm willing to bet, unless they're high which is very possible in my area, that I could get the boat for $500-1000 depending on condition.  I also always think down the road on purchases, trying to consider the worst case scenario, and weigh the purchase price with the highest repair costs and try to figure out if I can make money on it if I decide to sell.  I rarely purchase something unless I'm confident I can make money when I eventually sell it.

Stocker and te51levin can attest to my money making abilities on motor vehicles  :burnout:

Even my current street bike, which I purchased 02ish when it was about 1 year old, could turn out to be either mildly profitable or I could atleast break even.  I only paid $2500 for it then, salvaged the title myself and should be able to get around $3000 for it if/when I re paint it.

That said, I contacted a guy who had for sale an 01 suzuki rm125 with a bad crank bearing a while back and he finally got back to me after a few weeks.  It now looks like I may be spending any available boat money on it, but that depends on whether or not he'll take my sporterized mauser rifle as partial trade  http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z286/kneedownnate/mauser/   I'm already considering the cost for the parts and shop manual and how much I can resell it for if I get bored with it later, or if I realize I have nobody to ride with and should probably buy a super motard instead  :dunno:

With gas at $4.00 per gallon and way more than that on the water boating has become a very expensive hobby.  I sold my boat a few years ago but you measered the fuel economy in gallons to the mile instead of miles per gallon.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

True, BUT... cheap gas here is about $4.30 a gallon, but we're keeping it at $5 on the water and are going to do everything we can to keep it there no matter what.

I do dig chris chraft, but wood boats aren't my bag.  They often have a great exhaust tone too!

I think with the uncertainty of gas prices  buying a boat might not be a bad idea........ A sail boat with a backup( electric  moter.)  battery room/soler panels. That way when the country folds over you can just sail away ( Take me with you )

Does it have a belt driven pump on the engine, or is it in the lower unit?  I can't even remember if it's an I/O or outboard... and what brand/style is it?

I've never done a merc, but if it's anything like an evinrude it shouldn't be too hard.  Should just have to disconnect the shift linkage, pull the bolts and drop the lower, then the impeller should be in a housing at the base of the shaft.  Only things to really worry about are making sure it's installed with the blades bent the same direction as the old impeller blades and make sure it's lubed!

The jerk with the rm only seems to check his email every 2 weeks or so  :shake:  Just about the time I've written it off he emails me back and says he wants to deal, then I don't hear from him forever.  He better get his :pokinit: in gear or I'll have spent the money buying the s10 and he'll get pissy because I keep saying I'm really interested.

You know I have like 3 xr75 rolling chassis, right?  It'd be a start anyway, though you'd need to find a bunch of parts to make it work.
