94 Pickup 3.0 electrical problem
« on: Apr 07, 2008, 08:53:37 PM »
ok so heres the deal, i got a 94 sr5 pickup, v6, power everything, and the dash meter says its charging 16-17 volts....

buuuuuut, i put a meter on the batt AND alternator, and she reads 13.5v-13.7v, idling normal and idling with the elec system loaded....aaaaaand when the throttle gets bumped, with the system loaded or unloaded, it wont go any higher than 14.8....

so that rules out the alt n regulator not working.....

anyone else have a problem with this??

maybe a short somewhere??

common problem with the dashes??

any help would be glorious,
thanks,
Stink

Don't know if it is a common problem or not, but mine has never read right, be it with a dead battery or a good one.  I've got a '91 3.0

16-17 volts and it is way over charging on any system... :shocking: you should be looking ideally for around 14.5...what is the issue that you are having? is it just the fact that your gauges show something that your multimeter does not show? if you are truely getting 16-17 out of the alternator then you lost your regulator (or at lease a diode or two) and are going to boil your battery. just throw the meter from the stud on the alternator straight to the ground on your battery and see what you are getting. try this with all possible electrical devices off...then turn them all on and see what happens.

thats exactly wat i did, and the multimeter showed nothing higher than 14.8.....

""so that rules out the alt n regulator not working.....""

.... i previously stated all the same info,im just curious if its a common problem or someone has found the problem, cuz my dad's(50 year mechanic) out of ideas as with myself and any friends of mine that are good with cars.....

i know toyotas wiring is, uhh, yaaaaaaaaaa, so i figured they gotta glitch somewhere n its affecting more than just my truck....
