Half Doors
« on: May 16, 2008, 11:47:21 AM »
Just finished the half doors..... you like??

I cut out and replaced the inner door panel with 20 gauge steel and filled them with foam so they keep there shape and make for a comfortable arm rest. I used a real thick canvas for the cover and riveted it down. Cut holes for the ash trey and cup holder and I'm planning on putting some 6x9 speakers in them as well. Most importantly, to give credit where credit is due, my momma stitched the canvas covers for me....I'm no seamstress

that looks pretty good, but why the canvas cover? seems like itll hold dirt and water and such in all the time.

:headscratch: did you glue that koozy in there, or is it just sitting in that notch?  It doesn't look like its sitting deep enough to keep it there.

  looks good!  Why didn't you cap the top of the doors with 20g, instead of just putting the canvas on there?

I filled the doors with 'great stuff' brand expandable foam (4 cans per door)..... i did this because even when the doors get beat hard they will hold the shape and always close..... and it made for a nice semi-soft arm rest......the koozy is just chillin there.... its a coffee can that the cup holder is made from........i chose canvas because leather or vynal gets really hot, but you are right, it will probably get wet and dirty
