 should i continue to build up my 87 4runner and complete the sas or trade up for an fj40 that needs some work. drivetrain is original 72 fj40. needs body work obviously but is complete :turtle3:
87 Runner-rebuilt 22re,3 inch downey ifs lift,allpro rear bumper,Detroit locked rear with 4.88s,detroit true trac front diff,Marlin crawler clutch,R151F trans,Marlin Crawler 4.7 reduction gearset,33 inch Goodyear MTRs

I would finish the 4runner then get the Fj40 if you have the $$ :thumbs:

Depends on what you like really.  The FJ40 definitely is a very capable and nostalgic rig, but they are not really made for a family.  It is my belief that a 4Runner is much easier to build due to the availability of parts.

I have 2 fj40,s one for a trail rig and the other for a daily driver. I think the 4runner would be good for both.

Having had both I'd say the 4-runner is a great family rig but nothing has the "Cool Factor" like an FJ40...  :yesnod:

...and I forgot to mention the FJ40 will out tow the runner hands down.  If you pull a boat to the lake or camp trailer to your favorite spot in the woods the FJ will do a better job.  I've towed with both and there is no comparison.  The 22re just doesn't have the pull...
