Heater Hose Replacement
« on: Jun 02, 2008, 07:05:17 PM »
Last night I replaced the two long heater hoses on my 89 4Runner.  I called Toyota for a quote and was told about $190 for the three hoses so I was much happier when I picked up the three hoses from Napa for $70 and they fit perfectly.  I didn't change the smallest hose as it looked to be in decent condition (return it for $17 savings) unlike the other two that had multiple splices and a pin hole leak that had a temporary "As Seen On TV" repair in Moab.  I also put some Redline Watterwetter in the radiator tonight just for giggles.

The purpose of my post is to let people know that the Napa hoses fit great!
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

A cheap fix is to use normal heater hose and route it differently (I have one looped over the valve cover).......

I've also used copper plumbing elbows for tight turns with normal heater hose.........

I hate to burst your bubble, but napa hose rubber sucks major donky testicles!  Not sure if they're still using gates or not, but all, I repeat ALL the napa hoses/belts we've got over the last several years have been total junk!  I hope you got a good batch, but keep a very close eye on it for cracking/weeping  :twocents:

Personally, I've had great luck with goodyear rubber and would see if I could find it to replace the stockers, but I'm not sure if you're talking about the hoses in the engine bay or the ones in the cab.  Kudos on the water wetter, it's a great product
