Decent Shop Manual for the roadside emergencies
« on: Feb 15, 2008, 04:04:36 PM »
I'm looking for something cheap and portable but good enough for road side emergencies like wiring diagrams and such.

I know FSM is the best way to go but the FSM for my '00 4runner is 4 volumes thick and cost big bucks.  Last time I checked it was $140 per volume.  I don't want to spend the cash on the spendy 4 volume set and then throw it into my tool box if you know what I mean.   I'd prefer the FSM stay at home when and if I buy them.

What's a decent substitute for the on the road for basic stuff?  Chilton?.

chilton or haynes are both 'decent'. chilton is usually better with electronics, haynes better with mechanical.

Then maybe I'll buy both.  They are cheap and kinda thin.  That would still be much cheaper and smaller than 1 volume of the FSM.

:yesnod: and cheaper too if they get damaged.

In my old dodge, I had both, and I actually drilled holes in them, and put both books in one 4" 3 ring binder.  Kept them together, and they fit perfectly in the door panel.  A 4" 3 ring binder fits perfectly under a yota seat :gap:

Yup.  It would suck to ruin a FSM.

Good idea on the binder.  Thanks
