carburator & vaccume advance
« on: Jan 26, 2008, 03:51:50 PM »
If there is no vaccume at one of the two hoses going into the distributor then does that mean I need to rebuild my carb?? I even reved the motor and still nothing. I followed the hose to the carb and tried to see if there was vaccume there and the same results.
If I do need to rebuild the carb who do you guys reccomend in terms of kits?

It doesn`t necessarly mean you need to rebuild your carb, how did you check for vacuum ?, did you use a vacuum gauge or what ?, are you having trouble with your vacuum advance on the distributor ?, if so its possible the vacuum advance has gone bad. I had this same problem on my 84 4Runner and it turned out that both vacuum diaphragms in the vacuum advance were bad, i had to order a new one from the dealer and it was 200 dollars. I would recomend checking the vacuum advance and all of the vacuum lines first, if that doesn`t work then pull the carb and give it a good cleaning and as a last resort rebuild it. you can get a good rebuild kit from napa.

If anyone can just take 2 minutes and pull off their vaccume advance hoses going to their distributor and tell me how much vaccume is going to either one. A vaccume gage would be awsome but even a finger test will work at this point. The hose closest to the driver has 0% vaccume at idle on mine??

A healty engine should pull about 15-30lbs vacume however the more lbs it pulls idicates a healthier engine and one that is properly tunned. FYI the stock carb will have 2 vacume lines that run to the distributor. One pulls vacume at low idle and advances the carb to about 11 degrees. When the throttle is cracked open and pulles vaccume below the throttle bore it advaces the distributor up thru the rpms.

If you dont have vacume at the proper lines from the carb then your not advancing the distributor. Whitch is not good.

so if there is no vaccume at the rear line whether idleing or 2500+rpms then how would i go about fixing that?? Is there a diaphram in the carb?

Thanks for the reply so far! I really appreciate it.
