Hello  Friends,

Because the deadline for input to the draft plan by Lassen National
Forest on the uses of The High Lakes is January 15, 2008 we need to
get our comments in to them so that we have a say so in what the plan entails.

The draft is 10 pages, plus a time-line chart.  Everyone who loves the high lakes area or wants to continue to visit it and travel the area should read the draft and time line chart and PLEASE write their comments on it.  Your comments count and can be mailed to...

David C. Erwin,
District Recreation Officer
P.O. Box 767
Chester, CA 96020-0767

We, The Friends of the High Lakes, held a meeting at the Paradise Veterans Hall last night from 6:30-9:30 to inform everyone of how this draft came about, what its main points were, what we as users have found to be main concerns or flaws in the plan, and gave everyone the information on how to give their input to help re-write and change the draft before its final write up.  To those of you who could not attend please visit the following links and read this draft and mail your comments in to the above address.  These comments must be post marked by January 15th.  So please if you are really concerned about this area you will comment on what "their" plan says and mail em in.   :psss: Tell everyone you know :phone: and get them to comment as well.

You can visit our web site at www.friendsofthehighlakes.com to see the draft and its timeline.  Here is the direct link to the draft and the timeline.

If you have any questions or confusion on what you've read after reviewing the draft don't hesitate to ask.  Just go to the friends of the high lakes web site and click on the "email us" button and ask.  We will give you the answer you need.

Here is the list of the top 6 priorities for needed changes that the friends of the high lakes steering committee established after review of the draft and timeline:

1. Reopen 616 to 614 to 611 routes (from Plumas N.F. into Grassy Lake)

2. Reopen 519 from Spring Valley to Campbell Cow Camp as two track

3. Re-work and make possible improved number of campsites at Spring Valley, Long Lake and Campbell Lakes

4. Reposition or reroute, repair what is necessary to keep west
shore of Long Lake open

5. Raise the limit of 12 heartbeats / 4 vehicles at some / most
camp sites (this includes pets, too)

6. Work to eliminate seasonal closures, eliminate gates

Again, I can't stress enough, PLEASE COMMENT and send them in by Jan. 15th.

Every letter counts!
Go to www.friendsofthehighlakes.com and show your support, help reverse trail closures!
