85 axle in bad shape ?
« on: Nov 27, 2007, 01:00:48 AM »

Hey folks !  I got 85 front from the auto wrecker, pretty clean and got it for 150 yeah baby!
 Anyway, price seemed fair.
I'm told it had been returned cause the previous buyer couldn't get the knuckles apart.
Maybe he didn't know how or could the axle be bent slightly ?
I can't tell by putting a straight edge to it....any thoughts?
Just thought to ask before tearing it apart.
 Thanks!

well usually if there bent to a noticeable difference, its visable, but yeah a straight edge should be able to tell you.  good luck.

If it is bent usually it will be here, mostly due to yahoo's jumping their rig. It is hard to tell until you put some tires on it and then it will be obvious when it looks like it belongs on a pre-runnner.

did the birfs slide out easily or do they hang up on the upper part of the knuckle ball? if the birfs can be removed and reinstalled its prob not bent.

i'm pretty sure mine is just a tad bent and the birf hung on the bottom of the housing. but then again that end is what took the brunt force of my going into a huge ditch at 35 MPH on accident. it came out and went back in with a little bit of rubbing but still works fine and makes no noise. next time i rebuild the knuckles i'll bend it back out.
lets not and say we did.
