Clutch
« on: May 31, 2004, 10:25:09 AM »
Ok, I have 2 problems with my clutch. First off, I dont think it is fully disengaging. My pedal goes all the way to the floor, and I think it is about 98% disengaged. The truck was orignally an auto, so I dont know how fubared the clutch linkage is.

Also, at high rpm when wheeling, I am gettng the smell of burning clutch. I dont know if this is the clutch slipping, or something else.

Anyone have any ideas for me on this one?

Sounds like its time for a new clutch.  The only thing that could be missadjusted is the master cyl push rod for the clutch.  It could be turned out too much thus causing slippage.  If thats the case your clutch is smoked anyway beings it on the floor already.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

well, the clutch is only slipping offroad... so hopefully it will get me through the summer.

As for it being mis adjusted, the master cyl rod is completely bottomed out and there is no slack between the rod and the fork.

I always set the push rod so there is about 1-2" of dead area at the top of the pedal so there is no pressure present in the system.  If there is instant pressure at the top of the pedal travel its too tight.

There is instant pressure on the top, and I have to push it to the floor (as in I dented the floor pan) to get it to disengage. If the floor mat is inbetween the clutch and the floor, it doesnt work. So I dunno what to do.

Not really.  Its just from what you describe the problem is that the clutch disc is too thin from milage, slippage etc.  So you have to push the padal farther to make the pressure plate dissengage the disc.

ehh, who knows. I just know something is up. I wouldnt be suprised if the clutch were out though. I dont know if a new  used clutch was used with the w56 swap, and having a 35;1 crawl and 35's tends to mean you smoke the clutch alot.
