Topic: trade my 5.29 thirds for your 5.71 thirds?

i have a set of thirds with 5.29 gears. they just arent really enough gear for my tracker, so i would consider trading them for some thirds with 5.71 gears.


here is what i have:
front 82/83 model
open diff
5.29 (not sure of brand of gear) with yukon install kit
right around 1500 miles on gears and install kit

rear 95-ish model (was told it was v6, but i dont know)
open diff
5.29 (again not sure of brand of gear) with yukon install kit
right around 1500 miles on gears and install kit

i drove these gears very gently for 500 miles then drained the fluids, then ran it another 250 or so daily driving, then went to north carolina where i wheeled that weekend (i trailered the truck there). since i have been back, i have run maybe another 400-500 miles. these are in a geo tracker 4 door i did a solid axle swap on. the truck came stock with 27 inch tires and 5.12 gears, and the 5.29s just arent enough with the 33s i am running not.

if you have some thirds in excellent condition and 5.71s, id be interested in trading... i might consider paying some to boot if you have a rear locker...

i have 2 sets...one set is open and one is lincoln locked...i believe they are genuine gears, and they are in great condition...i'm pushing 37's with duals on them right now and wanting to go 5.29's where are you located

i also have a detroit quicklock i'd give out as well...it's not in the best condition, but useable for a front 3rd. not installed in the 3rd though.

i am in clinton, mississippi. will the ones you have work in my axles? solid front and IFS rear? i think they are the same third... is your rear a v6 or 4 cyl? i wouldnt want the lincoln locked one. why would the detroit only be suitable for the front? how much for it?

I have an 85 SFA and an 88 IFS rear and it's a 4cyl 3rd...the detroit would work in the rear, but most guys run quicklocks in the front if they don't have some sort of assisted steering. it's not a fulltime locker. i don't know what a fair price for the locker would be...i would need to take a look at it and get it cleaned up.

i think i would pass on the locker anyway. how old are the gears in your truck? who set them up?
