heater core issues

ok my heater core is clogged and im trying to take it out right now but it seems to me that these things are almost impossible to remove... to me it looks like i will have to pull the whole heater assemblie out to change it is this right or canyou somehow get to the screws that hold it in and shimmy it out throught the dash... any help would be awesome... thanks

I just disconnected mine under the hood and used the garden hose to force water back and forth through it untill it flowed freely.


I'm sure that's good to hear after you spent all day removing it. :therethere:

I did the same thing..  Hooked up the garden hose and flushed it backwards..it went from no heat at all to bake your beans hot.. wow what a difference..  I am glod cause changing a heater core on a 84 to 88 is a not so fun job :qtip:

Nice DIY trick.  Works well with the winshield pump as well.  My guess is that someone was topping off their radiator with a hose at some time.  So you get some algae and other yumminess in there.  Some water and maybe a tiny bit of cleaner.  I'm talking about maybe dish soap.  Nothing harsh enough to spring a leak.  (CLR or the like, for instance - bad news)
