dual toy case in sammy
« on: Aug 24, 2007, 03:20:54 PM »
ok i picked up a sammy body and frame for 125.00 i have a marlin dual kit from another project, an extra 84 22r and a couple of trannys(1- w56)(1- g54or g52 not sure) and (2 different 4spds) i would like to know the factory wheel base of my sammy and if i strech it to 98" can i put the duals or will my drive lines be to short? i thought about tryin to find a short style 5spd. to make my front line shorter and back one longer, i thought it might fit better as well please help!!!!

im currently helping my friend do the same. we have 2 zuki's. one beater, and another nice one. what we're going to do is use the beater as a template for what we wanna do.

from our measuring... the dual cases along with the 22RE we're using will render us with either 2-4 inches worth of extra driveshaft over the stock length of the sami's original rear shaft. we're achieving this with moving the engine forward in the frame, notching the radiator where the core support whent and running electric fans. ive looked around on pirate and seen it done. you shouldnt have any issues fitting it all in there just takes some measuring and alot of patience.

we're using a g-52 trans, the twin cases, toyota axles, 22RE, and jeep springs. we're also drilling extra holes in the spring perches in order to adjust the axles front or back 1 inch either way. hope this insight helps you out.

what about running the short style 5spd. that would net you more rear shaft length

short style 5spd? would those be the ones in the early 79-83's?

either way, i think we'll be ok with the g-54 we have.... we'll be shifting the motor forward to save some space and have some weight up front.
