I think you should go for it. I want more into on this conversion. I have been pondering the idea for months now.

I know there are a lot of mods you can do to them... I would look into some vw forums. I know there are lots of Samuri's that are converted.

Never heard of it being done to a Toyota but they were doing it to Samurai's at Rocky-Road using a 1.9 TDI and Petroworks used to do them too.

Yea they make conversion kits for toyotas. I was big into the vw scene and the 1.9, depending on the year are capable of pretty good power. Get a TDI if you can, more work as far as wiring. But a lot more performance options

1.9tdi's are awesome... talk bout running less than 14sec 1/4 mile and also getting 50-60 + mpg.....  course thats in a car...

I know my 1.6 jetta diesel had a monster of a flywheel so you could chug that thing down way low in the rpm range..
Those are some huge welds!

There is a guy that has a build article on his toyota around her some where. He put a TDI in his truck and I want to say he was getting 30 mpg out of it with 35's... How awesome would that be?

This sounds like it would be an awesome swap!  Great for road trips and exploring, gas ain't cheap these days!

I think buying a complete vehicle with a good running motor is the cheapest way to do this swap.

If your doing it for the power, do a 1.8t swap instead. With minor mods you can have one fast little yota. BUT, you're going from Toyota to VW... Something seems wrong there. I'm planning on the 2rz swap once the funds come around.

good thought, I would go with a VR6 for the torque, but there are no adapter for it. The bolt pattern for the 1.8t and VR6 tranny's are different than the TDI. I wish they were the same because I have a VR6 sitting in my garage
