22R to 86 sami motor mounts
« on: Apr 27, 2007, 02:45:34 PM »
Looking to swap a 22R motor and trans into a 86 samurai. Is there any available mount kits out there? or what have others used before I start making my own mounts.  :flamer: I will use the toyota axles with jeep springs and the Rocky Road mount kit.

I'm just about to help a friend do this same swap.  we already have the axles under the sami but now we have to do the engine and tranny

Check out stinkyfab    http://www.stinkyfab.com/index2.html he has done a 3rz in a sammy he might have mounts for a 22r as well seems to be a fairly popular swap from what I have read.

It aint that hard to build your own mounts I would just go ahead and do that. Keep it simple,

I cut the stock mounts off a toy frame, welded 1"x 2" rectangle tube about 6" long to the mount, bolted it all to the 22r, plated the inside of the sammy frame with 1/4 steel, the motor slid in perfict fit

yea, we actually are gonna go with a 22RE. we chopped out the mounts from the yota frame and are just going to chop/cut/ and weld wherever we need to in order to get it mounted in the frame. chances are we're gonna move the motor forward a few inches in order to keep the weight forward, run electric fans and a toyota radiator in the front radiator support area. since the stock hood latch will be gone, we're just going to mount a set of jeep outter hood latches to hold the hood down.
