Turbo Tranny Shifter Fit and Old G52
« on: Apr 03, 2004, 11:19:19 PM »
Hello everyone,
I've finally got the turbo tranny in my truck with the new Marlin Clutch  2 Questions.  The shifter for the turbo tranny hits the passenger side of the tranny tunnel.  Am I missing something or does this take a little metal massaging to make fit?  Its a '85 longbed regular cab with a 22R.  2nd question.  What the heck do I do with the old G52?  Its got a suspected broken input gear.  Take it to the junkyard?  Anyone want it for a rebuild?  Its free.  I keep the transfer for dual cases eventually.

Later,

Nick

Nick, both the G52 and the R151F turbo trans use the same trans handle.
Did you replace the green seat and the white nylon socket?
Do you have a body lift?

The only differance between the two trans is that the turbo aluminum shift handle base is actually mounted on the top of the trans rotated 180 degrees. This will move the handle 1" forward? You may be required to do some minor metal trimming or handle bending :dunno:

Just a minor setback for a 100% stronger trans upgrade :driving:

What was wrong with your old trans. Was it making noise in all gears except 4th? What does it feel like when you turn the input by hand?

I will be heading to Farmington next month for a rock crawling event. i would be able to stop by and pick up the core on the way back:biggthumpup:
Would you trade it for a t-shirt?

Marlin,
I did replace the white seat on the end of the shifter prong, but I did not replace any green seat.  Is that important?
Yes I have a 3" body lift (that will be coming off eventually), yes I noticed the 180 degree difference.  That's why is doesn't fit.   That 1" forward is what's getting me.  I will do some more metal massaging.  Thanks for the info.

When I drained the oil from the old G52 I found a single tooth stuck to the drain plug.  It goes "clunk, clunk, clunk" when the clutch is engaged and the clunking speeds up with engine speed.  It stops clunking when the clutch is disengaged.  It does it in all gears.  A t-shirt sounds great.  Large please  :)  Come and get it!

The green seat will raise the shifter handle upwards about a 1/4" which will also reduce the throw of the handle. It is very important, it helps keep the trans in gear.
We are getting a very large tee shirt order sooon.

Looking forward to meeting you.

I'll be heading down to New Mexico for ProRock this weekend. Give me a call on my cell phone so I can stop by and get the tranny for Marlin. My number is 909-201-5502
