Tcase Spline questions
« on: Aug 08, 2007, 11:35:57 AM »
I have a question regarding Transfercase Spline count, My buddy has a 97 4runner that has a manual with dual geardrive cases, unfortunately his rig was totalled a couple weeks ago, so he has these dual cases, that are just sitting there, my question is this Can I use his duals setup with my w56 tansmission, now I found this in the PBB FAQ
"Identification:
G52/54 84-88' are twin stick, use a 8 bolt center section, 6 bolt gear t/case pattern, 21 spline output.
G58 89-95' twin stick, 8 bolt center, 9 bolt chain t/case, 26 spline
W56 85-88' (single stick), 89-95' (twin stick), 10 bolt center, 6 bolt t/case, 21 spline
R151F 86 - 87 (turbo only) will have two housings of four bolts each just like a G52, the difference would be the large rubber plug on the bottom of the bellhousing."

it doesnt happen to say what splines the r151 has, Im not sure what transmission he has since he has the 3.4l but I could be wrong on that since it's newer stuff.
So would his v6 setup be able to work on my 4cyl stuff?
thanks guys

You came to the right place for Toyota Transfer case answers.

Assuming your friend's truck is a V6, yes, the setup will work in your truck, but you will need to do two things first:

1) Remove the 30-4GT front adapter plate from the front of his Crawl Box. This is only needed to adapter the Crawl Box to his V6 transmission (which is a R150F, not the R151F).

2) Exchange the 23-spline input gear in his Crawl box with a 21-spline input gear.

After this, it is a direct bolt on application.
