22r Carb Specs?
« on: Jun 26, 2007, 09:11:12 AM »
Does anybody know the factory specs for the air/fuel mixture on the 22r carbs?  I messed with mine and now it's not running like it used to.  Thanks everyone.

I adjust idle to quarter-turn richer than where the idle starts to miss slightly.  I use an O2 sensor when re-jetting.  Only the primary barrel can be rejetted as far as I know.  Weber jets screw in fine.

3.5 turns out from seated is baseline as per 85 FSM.

Thanks guys.  This is for an 81, so I don't know if the 85 will be the same.  I'll try it though.

I think an 81 is 2 1/2 turns out. Thats what it is for my 82.

If you're running a different cam or ignition timing timing than stock then your intake vaccuum will be different, so the stock idle mixture screw setting may not be what your motor will end up needing.

yea, i've got a downey cam and a rebuilt carb, so it's probably different.  with 3.5 turns out, and the idle screw all the way out (lowest idle), it idles around 1200 rpm.  at 2.5 turns out it'd be probably like 1600.  i've got it at 4 turns out and it seems to be running good, idling at just below 1000.

Regardless of cam and header, 1200rpm with the idle speed screw all the way out sounds like either a vaccuum leak or sticking throttle or choke linkage.

Like has been said there are different determining factors.  I tune carbs pretty much every day at work and none are the same.  One might like 2.5 turns out while another might like 5.  Turn in till it starts to stumble, turn out till it runs smooth and go another full turn.

Edit: if it's running well at 4 turns I'd leave it, but if you must I'd go out in 1/4 turn increments waiting atleast 15 seconds between each adjustment.  Just keep very good track of how many turns so you can return it to the same place if it gets no better.

i'm positive i don't have a vacuum leak or stuck throttle or choke.  i do have my emmissions computer bypassed, so that actually makes it idle a bit higher (and it passed smog that way too!).  but thanks for all the input.

1979- 1 3/4 turns out
1980- 1 1/2 turns out
1981/82- 2 1/2 turns out
