Topic: Air conditioning kits?

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience buying an A/C kit and installing it in their Toyota?  I did a quick search using google and it looks like kits are available.  I guess I'm wondering if there's an A/C authority out there that's recommended... you know, kinda like Marlin Crawler!

What year  are you trying to put it on??  Im sure you could find all the parts you need to do the conversion here or on other boards.

I have an '87 4Runner.  I guess I don't have a clue what I need.  I know there's a condensor and a pump.  Wiring shouldn't be too bad since there's only the one little on/off button?

I think youd be happiest with using factory stuff.  It would require no fabrication its all just plug and play.  Toyota knew what they were doing when they designed these pickups and made it almost stupid easy to install parts from different rigs.  I think 84runner still has a complete a/c setup that would work on your runner.  It was pretty cheap too if I remember right.

My runner equipped with factory A/C, no leak it's been there for ages BUT...It's suck not really cold.
I would rather open my window then used  pony eating A/C.

Are you wanting to sell your A/C?!    If it's not cold, does that mean it just needs to be recharged?

it may need to be recharged or maybe it needs a new reciever dryer.  also could just have a bunch of leaves and pine needle on the evaporator.


i recently put AC in my wife's 83.  got all of the parts from a wrecking yard.

you will need:

-condensor
-evaporator (and houseing with the electronics that go with it.)
-hard lines
-flex lines
-reciever dryer.(buy a new one from toyota for 45 bucks)
-brackets for the reciever dryer and hold downs for the hard lines.
-switch to mount on the dash(to turn it on and off)
-ducting
-the AC vertion of heater fan along with the resister and switch(more speeds and heavy duty)
and the pump with it's brackets
belt

i got it all in a kit form from a wrecker for 375.  all used parts.  of course i bought the reciever dry new and i converted it to 134A and charged it.  the 134A is very cold.  the dam AC in her truck is colder the the AC in my 2002 taco!

because it was toyota all of the wiring is there.  i just plugged it in.  as for the lines there were already tapped holes for all of the brackets and such to bolt down.

there where dimples on the fire wall that i used to drill through at with a hole saw for the recieving and returning lines to the evaporator.  and also the condensation hose below the evaporator.

on some model trucks i read that there are some cololing things that should be done as well.  the were things like and additional fan shroud piece that bolted on the bottom part of the shroud, and some gasket gizmos that sealed the hood to the top of the radiator.  basically to force the air to only go through the radiator and condensor.

I would definitely convert it to R134A because R12 and platinum run about the same price per ounce.
