Need 81 Pickup Federal Emissions computer and harness
« on: Jul 15, 2007, 12:08:42 AM »
Just what the title says. I need the computer and harness to hook up to all of the smog stuff. A pic of the computer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Anthony

Yeah, my wiring harness for the whole truck came from a cali model, and I have an 81 fed moter in it. My computer is on the driver side kick panel. The comp said 81 cali. So I need the federal computer and hopefully the harness to the smog stuff. Or maybe even the whole truck harness.

The computers activate the VSV's read the speed sensors, vac sensor and a couple other things.

The federal computer has a 13 pin connecter.

Im in Willows,ca. 1 1/2 hr north of Sac on I-5

i would try to convert the fed motor into a ca motor, it would actually be easier..... smog will bit you in the tail if they see your truck is a CA truck with fed emissions and wiring....

No, its a federal truck and engine with a cali comuter and wiring harness.   Would it work right to just splice the right wires to the things I need.

you could just tap in wires and splice, but thats a lot of work.....

swapping in a whole harness would be easier.... im willing to bet the harness is probably identical and its jsut the computer that needs swapping....

be careful though, smog techs are getting mroe and more anal these days, and some will tag you for anything.....

I have two old Mitchell Professional Repair manuals from Auto Shop. The wiring diagrams for smog stuff is pretty different. Im goin to the Chico Pick n Pull tomorrow to have a look at the trucks there. We'll see
