Topic: installing locker, need help

im putting a locker in my front axle on an 82 toyota truck.  I have the 3rd out and am in the process of pulling off the ring gear.  I cant get the pin out that holds the spider gears in.  That shiny pin that is there has a pin holding it in place.  I cant get the keeper pin out.  Any ideas?

What about other tips that you have learned the hard way?

a pin punch and a BFH on a hard surface.  Last time a broke a punch before it would move.  I don't recall the size neede, but use the largest that you can without contacting the carrier.

also, don't be afraid to swing that b*std hard.

The pin is somewhat tapered and comes out from one side only. Look at the carrier and it will be staked on one side, use the punch from the other side.

If you haven't already seen it, Zuk's site at http://www.gearinstalls.com/ is a great source of tips and info for Toy 8" gear swaps.  I did a couple by reading his site and both work great.

LOL, try hitting the keeper pin the other way. You'll spend days trying to hit it from the wrong direction.
