Lifting a new taco
« on: Jun 22, 2007, 09:23:58 AM »
Ok, I have been reading up on how to lift my Tacoma, and so far my best options seem to be: rear- shackles, give me enough room for 33s and from what i have read the adverse effects are minimal. front - new tacos have an embarrassingly low front. so this eliminates my cheap lift options. i wish i could afford a SAS both for the solid axle and the increased articulation. sadly, 4k isn't anywhere near my budget. so i am wondering what my other options are? i have heard something of extended a-arms and etc, but can't seem to find anything online.

You could just rip out all of the useless IFS and put a solid axle under there....

well if i could do a SAS for 1500 i would, me and my friend with an 88 toy work on our trucks a lot and we would do as much of the work as possible ourselves, eliminating at least some of the labor cost. could i just get all the parts from a donor truck (not sure when if ever they made front leafs standard)? how much of the swap requires speciality tools/precision measuring and fitting?

btw i agree about the useless IFS stuff, its got no articulation, its low, and i hate it hehe. smooth riding don't mean :pokinit: to me.

You need to get on Marlins web site and check it out, you can get the complete SAS kit and rear lift kit for less than $2500. Then you will need a front axle. Prices vary on the axles but they can be had for $300 to $350 maybe less. Then all you have to do is be able to weld, cut and grind. The front kit alone is $1450.

so how new is new tacoma like 07 or the older body style ones.
i know on the older ones you can buy spacers for  the front that will pick it up about 3 inches and in the rear on some you can take the bottom overload spring and flip it over and it will raise it 3 too 4 inchs and also help with ur hauling, a friend had this done on his 2000 single cab 4 banger with a body lift he cleared 35's easy and it would clear 38's with minor rub turning, it was fun too drive but did make it ride a lil rougher thow.
still had no flex but hell no ifs really has much.
good luck
adam
If you didn't make it, and it ain't broke, you didn't try hard enough.
