Poject '85 PU- Olds Cool
« on: Apr 15, 2007, 10:28:50 PM »
This weekend my roomate and I picked up this 85 Pickup for 1200. Its got a 22R in it w/ a blown head gasket.

The previous owner had pulled the head off to fix it but ran out of time and is moving so we scored a pretty sweet deal.Along with the truck we got about 2 truckloads of spare parts and alot of tires. I'm in the process of selling alot of the crap he gave us so that we can offset the price of the truck and hopefully get some fundage for the buildup

This buildup is going to take a while given we both work fulltime and go to school. so bear with me...

The truck has;

2" body lift
2" shackles
14" bob job
22R w/ blown HG
5sp Trans
36" cut TSL's
Bad ass mid 80's graphics  :cool:

It's Getting;
Body lift removed  :gap:
Bob job fixed
marlin classic 79-85 lift kit
30 spline longs
arp knuckle studs
bobby long cryo'd hub gears
22RE (need parts bad)
dual 2.28's
36" IRoks
4.88's and rear spooled, detroit front

heres what i've got to work with   8)

motor, or lack thereof

I'm unsure about weather the deck heights and timing cover heights are different between the 22R/ RE and if i just get an EFI head and all the componentry it should work right?

Is there a hole in the 22R block for the knock sensor? Oil PSI guage?

Anyone in AZ have any EFI parts for sale? i'm very interested!

if its the newer style 22r with the laser etched bowtie thing on the frivers side then it is the same block as the 22re

You are probalby going to have to run more wires down the driver's side fenderwell for the AFM.  I think it would be best to just get a entire dash harness out of a similar year donor truck and swap it over if you want efi.

I agree.  That's the best way to convert.  That's how I did my 84 EFI conversion.  I used both the entire dash harness.

I plan scoring a whole harness and all the components at once rather than piecing it together and making a rats nest harness. So far i've sold about 1/3 of the crap that we got with the truck so we're almost breaking even.

As for the dash, i'm looking for a sr5 cluster for the CEL and all that jazz. the dash is bare minimum, my old 82 had more guages than this thing!

I have the same instrument cluster in my 85. The sad thing is the fuel gage only works when it wants and the speedo doesn't work at all. Mabye I could mount a little tv there so I can watch the game and trail ride at the same time. :gap:

i looked on his block, and then i looked at mine, which is a 22RE and i don't see any 'bow-tie'

Look just in front of the driverside motor mount it will be there if it is a short deck. Its kinda round shape with a rounded part coming off each side.
