cold air intake
« on: Mar 19, 2007, 06:26:58 PM »
hey everyone, i seen the little adapter that goes to the mass air flow sensor for other toyotas like the celica so you can put a k&n cone type  air filter on. my question is can i get a adapter for a 85 toyota celica or other car of the same year and make it work on my truck? are the maf sensors the same??? :hammerhead: :driving: :flamer:

I'm pretty sure you can get one on ebay, but it's not actually a true cold air intake.  The only way to really do it right is if you make either a forced air intake or run your pickup as low as possible.  You can do this by drilling a large hole in the bottom of your airbox and inner fender just below and run a tube down close to the bottom of the body.  Nothing that breathes hot engine bay air is really a "cold air" setup.

Or if it's not street legal anyway, you could do what some drag racers do and pop a headlight out, then mount the filter in that hole.

Yeah, that mod works great.  My buddy did it on his '01 taco too.  Hey, that may have been the same truck in those pics..........  He always put that cap back on and popped a paper filter in when we went to Pismo beach though.  He thought it helped to keep the sand out better :shake_head:
