« on: Jan 23, 2004, 01:47:04 PM »
Newbie to this board from AZ.

Project details:
86' Ext Cab Pickup
88' TBI 4.3l engine swap in progress
700R4 Auto tranny
SAS with Hy-Steer completed
4" Suspension lift
ARB's front and rear
4.88 ring & pinion
Marlin's dual T case set-up (2.28X2.28)
Full Float rear axle w/ rear disc brakes (if I ever get the adapter ring).
Plan to make custom flat bed w/ fuel cell, tool boxes, gear rack

Eventually pulling 35" meats

I don't know when this project will be complete, but it'll be kick@$$ when it's done.

Sorry, no pics.... spending money on the truck instead of a digital camera. I'm sure you can relate. And yes, I've used all three of your suggestions for getting back on the trails and one more..... a little luck. :)

were did you get the full floating rear end. If you got it from front range off road fabrication please let me know how it works. I have ben thinking about getting this kit that takes the front locking hubs. I have been told that people have broke their hubs on the front end so I am afade to get the kit so let me know how it works out for you. THANKS!

Yes, it's from Front Range. Been waiting an awful long time for it so I really hope that it lives up to my expectations. I like the fact that I can retain the cable e-brake and they have some type of adapter to hook into the calipers. I'll hopefully have a self mobile wreck in the next month or so.  :crossed: I'll let you know then what I think of it.

ya know front range  also has the lockin hubs for the rear disc brake set up that will not be selectable, meaning that  its a hub that is always locked instead of the manual ones  from the front. I belive  the japanese  made a set for toyotas a while back and i think if i am correct front range can get them too. Now there are advantages  and disadvantages to that. if you tow your rig on a dolly you could turn the manual hubs in the rear to free and tow it down the road  problem free. Disadvantage  would be  you couldnt tow it , you could but it would be  rough, plus people might screw around with you and turn the hubs  when youre  looking at another rig. who knows witch one is stronger. That will be an awsome up grade  disc brakes witha full floater rear end ,  beefy  i like that !!!

Another week of working ond only one day to work one my truck (can't miss the Superbowl) - life is not fair.

Yesterday I spent relocating my t-case crossmember back 2 1/2" to give me more room in front of my 4.3. Now I know I can get a fan in there without any problems. I used the old torsion bar mounts as pins for my custom fab t-case crossmember brackets. Now my engine mounts line up almost directly over the front axle. Sweet! Tack welded the engine mounts in place just in case I have to torch them off for another unexpected showstoppper. I was hoping I could get rid of a 2" body lift but if I do that now I'd never the distributor cap off and might have a hard time even getting the valve covers off.  :conf: I never imagined all the things I would have to consider to engineer this build up.

I have not had a chance to look my Front Range package, but I did finally get it. Toyota did make a full time locked hub of rear axles but I'm going selectable. Yes, I'll be checking hubs on every beer brake - I mean piss break, but the looks of confusion :headscratch: will make that worthwhile.  8)
