Did some wheeling yesterday on Eagle Rock Trail. On the last obstacle I made it right up...So I decided to back up and try it a harder way. Bad idea...Apparently there was a big tree stump behind me so rear diff high centered on stump which forced my front end under cut rock. Tried to drive it out with the front and heard a loud pop. Thought it was an axle so decided to winch out and drive home. I ended up breaking both inner and outer hub gears on the left front. Inner was a chromoly from Longfield Superaxles. Outer was stock

So I thought axle was fine but did grind the axle splines down a little when inner chromoly gear broke. It always happens to me... show off=broke truck!

Axle and inner hub gear is under warranty. I think I will get outer chromoly gears too.

As soon as I get my axle and hub gear back, I am gonna install these new to Toyota locking spindle nuts that I got from www.3d-offroad.com. Stage 8 Locking Fasteners now have the X-Lock locking spindle nuts available for 79-89 Toyota 4WD. To get a set for your Toyota axle contact Matt at 3D Dimensions in Colorado Springs, the website listed has all the contact info.

I installed the Stage8 locking spindle nut on the front. Easy installation. Remove the 2 stock nuts, the retaining ring in between the 2 and the thrust washer.

Install the notched washer, then the grooved spindle nut(using a Dana44 spindle socket, mine is a Snap-On#S8695C), then slide the locking retainer on the spindle with locking tabs toward notched washer. If tabs do not line up, use spindle nut socket to turn spindle nut just enough to engage spindle nut and notched washer. Lastly install snapring in to 2nd groove.

Yes they are, and you shouldnt ever have to replace them. The stock retainers break over time getting bent back and forth. Keep in mind that it uses a different spindle nut socket(Snap-On #S8695C-$67 or any Dana44 4pin spindle socket).

I think they were about $88 a wheel. Go to www.3d-offroad.com for contact info and talk to Matt.

On the first run with the brake upgrade i checked the rotors for temp...after wheelin most the day and driving down old stage road back to pavement i was able to touch the rotors with my hand. They were warm but did not burn my hand. Upgraded brakes are perfect. I have not ran the truck since the Stage8 locking spindle nut install but it was a very simple install. I am gonna take it on the Black Friday Night run for the first time. Any one in the Colorado Springs area wanna go too...we are meeting at the southgate HomeDepot about 5:30 Friday.

Got to be careful doing that, I burned the crap out of my fingers once from that. Never touched a rotor since lol.

Thanks tgmaul, I dont want to offend Mr. Toyota, so I have tried to use as much Toyota as possible.

Haven't worked on the truck much since last year. I did get some parts ordered up though. I got a long spline drive shaft, drive flanges for front and rear, spring hanger for front(need to get pinion angle better), a triple stick shifter from radesigns, and best of all a free double t-case set up with 4.7 gears( i already have double stock t-cases so i will either do triple t-cases or just swap out crawl box. Also I just got a 91 4door 4runner with v6 and automatic tranny for $500. Has a knock in the motor but body and interior is in great shape. Hope to have updated pics next weekend.
