speedo help from 2WD guys
« on: Jan 14, 2007, 03:26:15 AM »
To summarize, I bought a 92 2WD with no engine or gearbox, and built anR151F/R154 hybrid for it. Now the supra tail came with a mechanical speedo sender and my dash, you guessed it, is electronic.
Obviously at some point I will need to go either full mechanical or full electronic. The full electronic seems attractive right now sonce it will allow me to correct the readings for the 3.07 gears easier and cheaper.

So if anybody happens to have a 2WD electronic speedo sensor out handy, could you please post or send me a picture and a couple measurments ? and indicate the gearbox code it came out from ? That would be truly wonderful !
Many thanks

thanks for the offer once again Jimbo but the mkii and mkiii cluster look like totally different beasts ? And assuming yours is in miles it probably will not be very useful for me except for times when I travel in the UK ;)
I want to gather a bit more info before I jump onto something.

The speedo gear sleeve is the same P/N for the R154 and W56 mk3 supras, one could think a W55 and a R151 would swap over. Now the question is, is the worm gear inside the tranny compatible ?

I really need to install the yankeetoys EPC to gain access to the USA cars and trucks P/Ns.
EDIT : OK I'm a dumbass the yankeetoys disks are Europe area and I even knew that from a couple years ago  ::)

thanks

OK problem solved. I remembered having a VF3B from a KZJ95 in my pile, from which I just pulled the e-speedo and bingo, amazingly it bolts right up to my R151. Done.

I couldn't believe my eyes, when you look into the EPC there's like one thousand different P/Ns but it looks like it was tailor made to fit my application. The wheel is 33 teeth rather than 31 but I will probably need a $25 electronic correction kit anyway if I can find the gearing.
