Transfercase Help.
« on: Dec 14, 2006, 01:41:24 PM »
my transfer case will not come out of 4low, and there is a bunch of play. i have tried while at a standstill, slow creep in both driections and with the hubs locked and unlocked. the problem is an an 87 carb22R. would a messed up tranny shifter do anything? is there any "easy" way to get it back into high range?

Pull the shifter and see if the shifter is out of the shift rods it rides in.  You can shift it manually with a screwdriver.  Do you have TC gears or have you had the case apart for anything?

Can you pull "up" on the shifter?   :yikes:   (like almost an inch?)

If so, ya lost your clip that holds the shifter down and managed to get the shifter out of the rails.

i have never gone inside the case, and the gears are stock. the shifter kinda comes up 3/4" but springs back down. all of the play is where gears used to be, turned the "j" pattern into a triangle.
. i will pull it apart tomorrow and see.
