03 Question...
« on: Dec 26, 2006, 04:40:13 AM »
Here's one that ya'll may or may not be able to answer. ;)

I recently had an 03 Tacoma come into the shop for a wiring issue (which we resolved. Shoddy stereo-system wiring fried the 4WD ECU/smart relay...) and the customer asked me a question which stumped me, personally.

He has a 4" Pro Comp suspension lift on his taco, and he had to replace the rack & pinion on it this past September because the bushings had completely worn away. The bushings have worn away again. He's worried about dropping a grand every three months, at this rate, and is wondering what he should do as far as preventing this from happening again.

So... Any suggestions?

I've gone through 3 sets of bushings 1 factory and 2 poly ones and have also replaced the rack I don't even want to get into how many inner and outer tie rods I've gone through. I have a 3" spacer kit and I'm dropping it to 2.5" and see what gives. But I just want mine to hold together for one last season then I'm doing the SAS. I'm re-doing the drive train this year.
I'm gonna suggest checking out the brackets that were installed for this kit and see if anything is bent or not mounted correctly. Just a thought.

have him replace the bushings with energy suspension poly bushings.  a lot of people have issues with them on pre-2005 tacomas.

the question I have is why have I gone through 3 pairs of inner tie rods on an '02 tacoma?

I've gone through 2 sets of them and to be honest the factory rubber one's lasted longer than both sets of the Energy Suspension one's on mine.
