i will be actually putting 4.10s in my 4x2 truck soon, im gettign them for free from someone :)

my truck has a 8" rear end

im also willing to bet that my truck is still quite close weightwise to a 4runner..... i have a gvwr of 4400 pounds... well the same year 4 runner has a gvwr of 4800

Get off the pipe man 4runner of your year is heavier. Has a t-case, another axle, axle mounts, driveshaft, hard top, etc., etc. :gap:

that is my point the 4runner is heavier, but not by much figuring it has the same running gear and only has a total vehicle weight limit of 400 pounds more than my truck.....

That's just the difference between a 4x4 and a 4x2 nothing more. It only means you have more payload capabilities than a 4Runner.

Well I have some good news to report. I finally got fed up with my crappy gas milage and went the dealership and ordered a factory O2 sensor. I put it in last week and this past weekend I went on a big road trip. I saw highway mpg numbers of 29.5mpg, 33.3mpg, and about 26mpg(not all highway miles). So if any one is questioning there O2 sensor spend the money on a factor sensor and you will notice results. I did. My highway milage before was anywhere between 21 to 24mpg, so that simple O2 change made major improvements.

1985 X-cab with 32" Swampers, 4.10 gears, brick-like aerodynamics, 22R with 245k miles: 18 mpg average
Same truck with 5.29 gears before going to a larger tire: 17 mpg average

If it never breaks, people can only speculate how much it was overbuilt.

I get in the low 20's with my '87 'runner 37"s 5.29 and that is using a GPS for milage measurement not the odometer, as someone questioned earlier. Maybe I'll check out one of those fancy O2 sensors though

BCD,
If you can do it and you know the O2 sensor is bad, go for it. I double checked my mileage today and I recorded 30mpg. Remember I am running a 2WD with a 22RE.
