I am planning on enlisting in the Marine Corps as soon as I get my AA at college. My dad was a Marine and said that is all you needed to be an officer when leaving boot when he was in, in the early 90's. Does anyone know if that is still the norm or do I need a bachelors degree to go in as an officer?

Pretty sure its a bachelors.  We have a marine officer recruiting office across the street from my office.  They are closed now but I can go over tomorrow and ask if you want.  Let me know.

Thanks for the reply topar and thanks for the offer but I need to go talk to a recruiter anyways so I can do that. I posted this same thread on a dodge forum I post on and some guy said I need a bachelors degree as well.  Looks like my enlistment date got pushed back two years......

If you want to be an officer, join the reserves, they promote a hell of a lot faster, and you still get full time action, with everything going on right now.

Yeah my dad also told me that is a good idea for the time being. I just figure that would be hard for me since i am a full time student. I am fortunate enough though to work for my parents so that wouldnt be hard to work around.

We have some full time students here.  I am a police officer at a college (Yeah I know) The guys that are full time students and are in the reserve are having a real hard time when they come back.  From what I see here I would recommend finishing school then joining.  Good luck whatever you do.  I am prior military.

An AA might get you mosquito wings (PFC) out of boot. A BA is required for OCS. Check with the recruiter for programs or contracts that might be available for OCS (Officer Candidate School). I enlisted in the USMCR and my wake up was Oct,3 1990. It was one of the greatest things I ever did. Good luck.
