Smog stuff
« on: Sep 26, 2006, 08:55:36 AM »
Tried to search but all I got was that the page could not be displayed. I'm cutting the inner fenders out of my '92 x-cab and narrowing the front. What smog stuff can I get rid of to clean up under the hood and make some more room. Thanks any info appreciated

I would rip all of the smog stuff off in that case and put vacuum plugs on all of the open ports.

No that I know of.  The main thing is that you don't have vacuum leaks.

I think there's a little more involved with the charcoal canister since it's connected to the fuel tank. I wouldn't just rip the lines off and call it good - you could end up with fuel everywhere.

The charcoal canister is the biggest piece of smog junk.  He just needs to make sure before he rips stuff off to make sure it is indeed smog junk.  Remember, all openings need to be plugged.

When I remove the charcol canister do I just loop the lines together? And just to clarify the charcol canister is the one in front right? Its a '92 pickup.

The cannister in the front right is the vacume resivor for the front axle disconnect. This can be removed along with the two electrial solonids and pluged at the intake mainafold.

Since your truck is efi I would be careful as to which parts were removed.
Although the vapor canister can in fact be removed, you still need a vent for your gas tank unless you are going to a fuel cell type set up.

I would encourge you to try to reroute and concentrate the parts togeather instead of trying to remove some and leave others.

Case in point:
Your 92 should have a temp sender on the egr pipe that is bolted to the back side of the upper intake mainafold. If you remove the egr valve and the temp sender, your engine will set a code and the performance of the system will suffer.

If you want to make it "clean", i would suggest investing in a aftermarket ignition system like we have on our rock buggy. We goit it from LC engeering from Canada and it cousts like $1200.00.

Just my two cents worth.
