Found out where that banging sound was coming from
« on: Jul 22, 2006, 06:11:10 PM »
I just took apart my old 22re today.  I overheated it and it started making a horrible clanking sound so I dropped in a new motor (which has yet to run by the way...).  But anyway, I found the problem in my old motor, nasty stuff, toasted rod bearing anyone?  Maybe I'll make a necklace out of it...  :gap:

You're kidding me, it made a bunch of noise just because of that!

From the looks of it, it was banging for a while.

Sorry to see that, better luck next time.

Yeah, the #3 connecting rod had a lot of play of the crankshaft.  It started overheating on the highway so I got off the nearest exit let it cool added coolant and turned back toward homebase.  I was running up the interstate at 30 mph with the pedal to the floor in 3rd gear, hazard lights blinking all the way.  I had to stop 2 times to let it cool, but after the second time, it wouldn't start back up.  I ended up waiting for AAA for an hour in the hot sun.  Good times, good times.
