fj60 crossover
« on: Jun 24, 2006, 02:29:38 PM »
I have a 1985 toyota 4x4. I want crossover steering, and looked at a fj60 today and i saw that it had some sort of crossover steering, dont know if it was stock or not? would this fit my truck, with or without modifying it? would the steering arms fit on top of my knuckels? Also the fj has power steering box on it would i need a ifs power steering box or use the one on it? :)

60s used an "inverted T" setup like a jeep or most later straight axle fords.  basically the drag link end fits in a tapered hole in the passenger side tie rod end.

i personally think it's a great idea for doing a crossover setup if you're too cheap to buy hysteer arms or don't have the clearance.  since mini and FJ80 ends have the same taper, i'm fairly sure that the 60 ends would be the same as well.

the 60 box should work just fine as long as there's no problems with mounting it.  they aren't widely used because they cost a lot more than IFS boxes.

i can get all the fj-60 parts for cheap or free. So the steering arms are not the same as say a "marlin arm". Would they fit the toyota truck bold pattern? when i saw the fj and looked at the arms them reminnded me of thoes in the crossover kit, so i though to my self my dad will make me new tie rods and ill get some new ends and a steering box and it will be crossover steering but for free-ish. What do you mean by clearance? would it work or even compair to a kit you buy. Should i even waste my time or just go buy a damn kit! heheheh. I am 16 with no job............. the father is getting tired of the toyota robbing the bank! Thanks- Nick :smack:
