Short side ifs shaft
« on: Sep 02, 2003, 06:27:44 AM »
OK, i broke the short side shaft on my ifs, the problem is, how do I get it out, there's a c clip like in birf. that retain the shaft inside, I've planned to weld something to it so I can pull it out, is it a good idea or do I just have to weld the flange back on and hit it with a hammer.

Theres a few ways to do this   .Take out the other side and try to poke it out.Or weld a bolt on to the nub and pull like hell :flamer:.I just had one of those apart not long ago and i do believe there is a clip that holds it on. :twocents:

yea,,If you weld a small bolt to it you could get a pry bar on it and pop it out..its just like a small c style clip that holds it in,,it will come out with the broken part..nice job on the brakeage!!

Hey there Bud, on my old '86, I broke 4 of these with a true track diff, I now own about 2 dozen stub shafts, but here's the good part, I took '5' of them to my buddy, and had him drill and tap the inside of the flange (axle shaft) so if and when I broke another one, I'd install a screw and use a pry bar or vise grips to yank it out, I still have a couple of these modified ones and plenty of stock ones left, like I said, I've got about 2 dozen of these stub shafts, I'll sell you the 'kit' which includes a chain and screw and a drilled and taped stub axle for 40.00 plus shipping....Stew   plus 10.00 each for extra stub axles, for 100.00 I'll give you 2 taped and drilled and 5 untaped stub axles, Just imagine changing an axle without even taking off the tire!!!!  Stew
