motor rebuild ?s
« on: Jan 01, 2006, 06:40:36 PM »
Im debating on rebuilding the motor myself or just getting a remanufactured motor, and was wondering what tools are needed and how diffcult it will be. Any help would be great thanks.

nothing really special needed for a 22R type engine.  just basic mechanic's tools, as well as a few automotive tools.

some of the more specialized stuff:
torque wrench(nice to have a 3/8(something like 10-80lb) and a 1/2(20-200lb) drive to handle everything
ring expander/compressor
seal drivers(aka block of 2x4)
gasket scraper

also for the engine stand, head bolts and main bolts from a 22R work great.

rebuilding one of these engines is pretty straightforward as long as you take your time and don't just slap it together.  the hardest part is probably remembering where all the timing cover bolts go.
