How much lift to use high crossover steering?
« on: Nov 10, 2005, 07:57:37 PM »
I have come to the conclusion that push pull steering on my 85 sucks A$$. So I want to switch over to an IFS box, and Marlin's High crossover steering. But......... I only have (and want to keep it that way) 3" of lift on there right now. Will High crossover steering work on my truck or do I need to lift it more?

My truck is: 85 X-cab EFI 4x4 stock otherwise. 31" BFG All terrains
3" skyjacker springs (bought it that way) front and blocks rear.

Thanks.

I have about 3 inches on mine (bunch of leafs thrown together) . It does rub the springs at full stuff but it doesn't bind up. I think I have about 3inches of clearence under the drag link to the springs at ride height.
I don't need a winch, I wheel a TOYOTA!!!!!!!

This is just a daily driver so I am not to worried about flexin' it out ( I leave that to my built toy) and having them rub, I am more concerned with the tie rod and drag link contacting the skid plate!

From what I've gathered from some past posts is the only way to get around going with more lift is to also pick up a pitman arm from a 2wd ps box and switch it for the 4by arm, since it has less drop I would think.  Luckily this should be a fairly easy item to snatch up from a yard.

Yeah, you'll have to ditch the skidplate most likely.  You won't miss it- trust me!

i'm gonna try it with my 3" downey springs.  i'm just gonna put bumpstops in at a level just above the tie rod, to keep it from smacking the frame under compression.

i think mounting of the box has a lot to do with it too, get it as far forward as you can and tilt it back to make sure the pitman arm will clear the springs.

Good call. I realized after I wrote it that that was kind of a obvious fix. But thanks for pointing it out to me!  :smack:
