You should be able to find the timing specifications(which I dont know for a 22re) under the hood on the emmissions label. You need to connect a timing light to the positive and negative battery cables and also to the #1 plug wire. There is a timing mark on the bottom pulley(crank pulley) and also a pointer along with numbers showing how many degrees before top dead center you are currently at-all these marks may need to be cleaned up so you can see them clearly. Adjust by loosening the distributor mounting bolts and moving it while the engine is running and pointing the timing light at the crank pulley to see where you firing #1.
