dome light wiring
« on: Aug 06, 2005, 04:42:25 PM »
:usa:  hey everyone, been awhile since i checked in, spent the last three months getting my stuff moved to indiana from minnesota. new job ya know.
today i figured i'd try and figure out why my dome light didn't work on the the drivers side door and did on the passenger side. after checking all the wiring under the dash, in the door and in the headliner, i'm still at a loss at why it won't work. all i can think of is there is a diode in between the passenger and drivers side switches. anydody got ant ideas. or know where the diode is. it's an 86 pick-up sr-5
{rebuilding an 85 front axle right now, and saving some cash for the sas} the local salvage yard has another 85 front axle if anybodys interested

check the door light switch... it controls the ground on the circuit.  open your door and the little thing pops out..could be yours is corroded, not hooked up, broken, etc.  its right below the arm that keeps the door from opening too far.  pull it apart and ground the wire, see if the light comes on.

The first thing some people do is get rid of the door buzzer.  the easiest way to do this is to unhook the driver's door switch.  Which also make your dome light only work on the passenger door.

:D after i found the right wiring diagram, it seems the drivers side door switch gets its circuit through the seat belt warning switch. and your right evidently the previous owner didn't like the door buzzer and disconnected the seat belt relay up under the steering wheel. thanks for the input everybody. talk to ya soon
