22re distributor interchange question
« on: Jul 04, 2005, 12:23:25 PM »
Are all 22re distributors the same? I have a 92 pickup and have access to one out of an 1986 pickup, will this be the same part? I need a new one and don't want to pay 200$ for a reman unit. Thanks.

i'm pretty sure they all interchange as long as you don't get one from an '83-84 22R-E(they were analog injection so they had a carb distributor with vacuum advance)

Physically, yes they will interchange.  The pickup coil connector is different on the 89+ distributors tho.  FYI, the pickup coil is just about all there is to go bad, and a new one is only like $75 at the dealership...

Didn't Efi start in 85
also does that mean that an 85 is an analog type pickup
wandering if 86-87 distributor will work in an 85 efi set up

EFI started in '83, '83 and '84 engines were of the early 22R style and had analog fuel injection.  they weren't found in 4x4s from the factory, only celicas and 2wd trucks(haven't seen an '83 2wd truck with a 22RE though)
