22re to r151 bell housing to r150f (early)
« on: Mar 19, 2023, 01:05:13 PM »
im currently building an 1985 pickup. i have an r150f out of a 89 4runner and a r151 turbo bell housing. my question is will this trans and engine setup change where that engine and or trans must be mounted. after some measurement on both transmissions. the shifters are further back on the r150 from the bell housing. also the trans mount (r150) is not Stright like the w56 mount. so it seam to me that the trans would sit further forward meaning the shifter will match the body trans tunnel but may cause the engine to move forward witch would require relocation of the engine mounts. dose any one know what has to be done to perform this swap?

After installing the 22re connected to the r151 bell housing and r150f (early) trans. I found that no modification of the engine mounts is required. Also, the factory transmission cross member (Stright) from the four cylinder must be used to mount trans. no modification of the trans cross member mounts on frame. since the shifters on the r150f are 3"in further back modification of the trans tunnel will be required to clear transfer case shifter. next step is to figure out what clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel to use. LCE Performance sells a high torque flywheel for 20R/22R/RE/RTE this is a 9.25" flywheel. I have yet to find a factory 4 cylinder flywheel that is 9.25". I have found that the 3.0 3vz-fe has a 9.25" flywheel but has a different bolt pattern on the crankshaft (8 bolt pattern) instead of 4 cylinder (4 bolt pattern). Ill leave ya'll with one question must I run this lCE Performance 9.25" flywheel and clutch kit or is there a 22re that ran a 9.25" flywheel so I can source the parts locally? hopefully my findings help someone thinking of swapping in a r150f behind the 22R/22RE. If I find the answer to the question, I'll update the post.
