Greetings y'all,
My wife and I are wheeling a low-mile 2019 5th gen 4runner TRD offroad. We call this our buy-once, cry-once build, since we've bucked our normal trend and have done all the mods I've been salivating over in a very short period of time, to get that part over with, to be able to focus on taking trips with our growing (and almost out of the house) kiddos.
Mods So far were completed at the end of 2021:
Warn Low-pro winch bumper
Warn M8000 winch
ARB diff breather re-location
Safari Snorkel
Dobinson's 2.5/3.0 lift (150lbs over stock front/700lbs over stock rear)
285/70-17's on stock TRD premium rims
4xInnovations full belly skid
4xInnovatoions bolt on sliders
RCI rear lower link armor
Victory4x4 rear Strike bumper
FrontRunner Slimline 2 rack
AJC Cargo area plate w/ ICECO slide
RagoFabrications Molle panels/shelf
That build basically left us stock drivetrain-wise (ATRAC/MTS/rear Elocker) and we hit a bunch of trails starting in Nov 2021:
Moab - various trails
Anza-Borrego - coyote canyon and plain'ol exploring
Ocotillo Wells
Pismo
Laguna Mtn snow trip
Local Socal trails
What we found out - we LOVE this truck on-road. Long road to Moab from Socal was not bad at all. Very comfy and got good mpg's for a 4x4 (16-17ish) going 80 the whole way...lol. What we also found out - off-road we simply want/need more gearing. The stock 33:1 crawl ratio won't cut it.
Sooo, we're going to stick with our current 3.73 diff gears, since they're great for long road miles, and our 33's since they're seemingly the biggest tire we can fit before major body mods, and are looking to install a crawler/underdrive box. The TacoBox looks be a great option with thoughtful engineering at it's heart. We should come out with a 158:1 ratio with our 3.73's and almost as important, with so many testimonials available, should be maintaining our expectations of a very reliable, long-lasting drivetrain. With so much torque available, we hope that sticking to 33's-34's (285/75-17's are future possibility) and just ATRAC up front will minimize busted CV's.
Looking forward to chatting y'all up and learning more.
-Brian

Wow Brian!!!
Nice twuck!!
Welcome.
I'd highly suggest you consider a 20# aluminum CO2 for airing up tires.
Anza Borrego... one of the very best places I wheeled my 1986 Longbed automatic in.
I was all over that park many times. I saw, and have a photo somewhere, the biggest Diamondback I've ever seen in the wild!
Gnarls.
