Coming up, probably this coming spring, I'm going to have to replace the clutch in my 1984 Toyota Pickup, 22R, 2x, 4-speed (W42) - coming up on 180k miles. I am considering what I should, or might, do with the trans. It works fine as is except it might be nice to have an extra gear. In researching here I haven't found any info on my trans, the W42 - no specs or kits/gaskets etc. Is it that odd of a trans to have? How similar, or different, is it to the other W transmissions?
I could swap in a used W5x-something, but I end up with an big unknown. It's not really in my budget to have one rebuilt.
